Forgotten Toy Chronicles: Looking Back At 2000s Toys That Have Gone Into Extinction

Toys are an essential part of childhood, and as one gets older, they only get replaced with more ‘mature’ ones. At least, that was the modus operandi before kids started playing online games on their iPads. While we’re not those folks that go all, “Back in our days…”, we can’t help but look back fondly at those toys that made kids happy in the 2000s. Here are five of them.

Skip-It

Of course, many younger Gen Z’ers haven’t even heard this name before- but millennial kids surely remember it. Skip-Its were one of those 2000s toys that everyone wanted to try- kids that didn’t have them wouldn’t let those that had rest; it was so exciting.

However, as technology advanced, most kids lost interest in the toy. Considering the funny fact that most kids ended up having mild(and sometimes serious) injuries after tripping on the toy, we’re not so sad it’s extinct.

Beanie Babies

Beanie Babies were also very popular playthings in the 2000s; you’ll find these babies in almost every house back in those days. Well, our Beanie Babies have grown out of their fame today.

Before you argue that Beanie Babies are still around, one look at their eyes will tell you the original babies are gone. The revamped Beanie Babies have pleading eyes- a very distinguishing feature. Even the revamped versions aren’t so popular today.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Dolls

Mattel isn’t just all about Barbie dolls; they tried their hands on different dolls aside from Barbie. In the early 2000s, they put out an array of Mary-Kate and Ashley dolls- and kids loved the twin dolls then.

However, they discontinued the dolls after the twins’ final film together, New York Minute, was released. Although some millennial kids still have these dolls in their stuff, we can safely say we’ve seen the last of these twin dolls.

Hasbro i-Dogs

Some of the most iconic toys that came out in the mid-2000s were the Hasbro i-Dogs. These toy pups caught the toy market by storm as even older kids wanted to have them. Well, they stopped existing a few years later.

These music-loving dogs were exciting toys that kids seemed to never get tired of- they were just one-of-a-kind. If given another shot, we think Hasbro i-Dogs will sell as well as they did in the 2000s.

Sky Dancers

This was probably the most loved toy of all time from the millennial kid’s perspective. The sky dancer was a toy that didn’t just sit there; one could set it loose- and this was why we loved them so much back then.

Sky dancers were discontinued because they caused different types of injuries, from broken teeth and scratched corneas to mild concussions and cases of temporary blindness. So its extinction is for the best, you’ll agree. But we still miss it.
