Although not all Hollywood relationships were built to last, all of these couples from the 90s will live on in our hearts. We adored them too much to leave their memory in the past. Their love stories highlighted the popular romance stories during the decade. Read on for a nostalgic trip down memory lane featuring 90’s stars like Whitney Houston, Jennifer Aniston, Hugh Grant, and Johnny Depp.
Johnny Depp and Kate Moss
They are the very essence of the 90s: ridiculously cool and perfect. From when they met at Cafe Tabac in NYC in 1994 to their split in 1998, Johnny Depp and Kate Moss were the envy of many people.
The couple walked red carpets together, wore matching outfits, broke up, made up, and even got engaged. We’re not rooting for them to get back together, but their memory can live on with the rest of our wonderful nostalgia for that fantastic decade.
Elizabeth Hurley and Hugh Grant
No relationship is without its up and downs, and this rule certainly applies to the 13-year relationship between Hugh and Elizabeth. The two started dating in 1987, although we can’t say how they met. However, love isn’t always white and black.
In 1995, Hugh famously ran into a bit of trouble with someone named Divine Brown. Nonetheless, the pair lasted until 2000 before splitting amicably– so peaceably that Hugh is godfather to Elizabeth’s son. So we’re still happy about how they turned out.
Jennifer Aniston and Tate Donovan
We saw a version of this relationship play out on the small screen when Tate played Rachel Green’s love interest, Joshua, on “Friends.” The fictional romance occurred during the demise of their actual one.
Jennifer and Tate began dating in 1995 and split up in 1998, as the Joshua/Rachel storyline was in production. There were also rumors that they got engaged at some point. Whether they were engaged or not, it ended.
Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt dated from around 1994 to 1997 after meeting on the set of “Se7en.” They were a red-carpet power couple and even sported matching haircuts and outfits. The iconic duo was admired in many ways.
However, despite Brad proposing, the two ended things in 1997. Gwyneth told Howard Stern in 2015, “You can’t make that decision when you’re 22 years old …I wasn’t ready, and he was too good for me …I didn’t know what I was doing.”
Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown
Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown met at the Soul Train Music Awards in 1989, when both were at the top of the music charts. However, it wasn’t exactly love at first sight. Whitney accidentally hit him while hugging her friends, but the rest is history.
Their relationship faced many ups and downs. She turned down Bobby’s first marriage proposal, but they were eventually married on July 18, 1992. However, in the mid-2000s, news broke of problems in their marriage, including drug use and rumors of infidelity.
