Not mentioning Cher in an article about the 1970s is like not listing polyester or the Vietnam War. She became such an iconic figure of the decade that everything about her is synonymous with that era, including her long, straight locks.
This style became a favorite amongst the era’s young hippies, although Cher’s version was more polished and included less dirt and grease. The straight and long hair is still the style most Cher impersonators sport whenever they imitate her.
