Snacking Down Memory Lane: These Discontinued Snacks Shouldn’t Have Left Us

Like fashion trends, every decade has amazing snack trends. However, like fashion trends, snack trends fade and discontinue for a reason. Many of the producers of these snacks stopped them for different reasons. This article is dedicated to those delicious and odd snacks of the 1990s and 2000s that we miss.

Planters Cheez Balls

Planters Cheez Balls is one of the 1990s snacks that reminds us that nothing can perfectly replace the original. Although this snack has different varieties today, none can remove Planters Cheez Balls from the OG spot. What made it special?

If we’re being honest, everything made Planters Cheez Balls special. From the cardboard can to the unique taste. There was also the cheese dust you had to lick off your fingers after digging them into the deep end of the can.

Wonderballs

You can’t talk about snacks of the ’90s without thinking of Wonderballs. Enjoying Wonderballs wasn’t all about the taste. The thrill of rightly cracking them open was a major morale booster as a cool kid back then.

To enjoy Wonderballs, you had to shake it before cracking it open. The tart candies inside the chocolate would definitely make you squeeze your mouth. Unfortunately, in 2004, the candy had to be discontinued due to potential choking hazards.

3D Doritos

How could you say no to 3D Doritos as a 90s kid? These chips were one of those well-loved 90s snacks that barely made it to the next decade. While we now have the classic Doritos, they don’t quite hit it like the former 3D version.

It’s sad to remember the sweet taste of the cone-shaped punch. Kids could either buy them in a cup and dump them right in their mouths or buy them in a snack bag and take them home. They were discontinued in the early 2000s.

String Thing

String Thing was another 1990s snack that we loved beyond the delicious taste. Just as the name suggests, this snack was in the form of a string. Kids always enjoyed playing with the rope in different ways before eventually eating it.

Even though most parents didn’t want it, kids played guitar, jumped rope, or turned the rope into a wig or something else. It goes without saying that String Thing doubled as a toy. However, we had to bid it farewell as it was discontinued.

Cadbury Dream

If you were a ’90s kid, you’d know that any discussion about Cadbury Dream always ended up being a controversial one. While some loved the blissful taste, others just couldn’t grasp the idea of white chocolate. But people who loved it miss it.

The white chocolate bars were, in our opinion, a taste of heaven. Sadly, our love for Cadbury Dream wasn’t enough to make it stay with us. In 2002, the snack was discontinued due to poor sales. RIP, our beloved Cadbury Dream.
