Oreo
What is the origin of the name Oreo? Well, the most popular version claims that Oreo is derived from or, French for “gold,” which was allegedly the color of the original packaging. Others claim that it is an abbreviation for “orexigenic,” a medical term for substances that stimulate appetite.
The National Biscuit Company (now known as Nabisco) invented and manufactured the “Oreo Biscuit” in 1912 at its Chelsea, New York City factory. Oreo quickly became one of Nabisco’s best-selling products and has remained so to this day.
