Monopoly
In 1903, a woman named Elizabeth Magie created “The Landlord’s Game,” a tabletop game to demonstrate the negative aspects of monopolies on society. We don’t know whether she succeeded at that, but one thing is for sure: her invention inspired the creators of Monopoly.
With an estimated 250 million sets sold worldwide and over 1,000 different versions, Monopoly is arguably the most popular tabletop game. By the way, did you know that the longest Monopoly game in history was played for 70 straight days? It broke a world record!
