The Apollo-Soyuz Test Project (ASTP)
Before the 70s, it was clear that the United States and the Soviet Union were fighting to see which country would achieve superior spaceflight capability. However, everything changed in 1975 when these two rivals joined forces to launch a space mission together.
A major breakthrough for international space missions, the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project docked two spacecraft, an Apollo and a Soyuz, in orbit around the Earth. ASTP was so successful that it helped to improve relations between both countries, paving the way for future collaborations. Isn’t it amazing?
