This Is How Supermarkets & Grocery Stores Looked Like In The 1960s

In 1965, Celloplast, a Swedish company, patented the one-piece polyethylene shopping bag. The plastic bag, invented by engineer Sten Gustaf Thulin, quickly replaced cloth and plastic in Europe. That same year, Safeway supermarkets implemented a roll of those plastic bags in their produce department.

And that was quite an innovation at that time. Now, keep in mind that, fortunately, we have some alternatives to those polluting bags. Using our own bags prevents more plastic bags from ending up in landfills or other places where wildlife can become entangled in or eat them.
