Floppy discs
There were no flash drives in the early days of personal computer storage. So, floppy disks were life savers. These discs allowed users to transfer data from one computer to another, though not large amounts of data at once because floppy discs did not have much memory.
Zip drives were another ’90s icon for those in need of heavy-duty memory. These colorful, small discs were rendered obsolete by CD writing technology and, eventually, thumb drives. Nowadays, you can install Windows 10 from a USB flash drive, which is a far cry from the days of floppy disks.
