Pagers
These gadgets, also known as beepers, were used by a small group of doctors in the 1950s. After a few decades, people from all walks of life began to rely on the beeper. Users had the option of purchasing a one-way pager that could only receive messages.
Or a two-way pager/response pager that could both create and view messages. Messages on a pager could be alphanumeric or voice messages. If you have ever seen a TV series from the 1990s (in Friends, Phoebe has one), you have most likely seen a pager, as they were popular back then.
